Jersey Pine Barrens  February 9-11, 2023

Spend three days cruising the Jersey Pine Barrens seeking out the Jersey Devil, just kidding, but it’s a good gothic tale to tell.  The Pine Barrens, or known as the Pinelands, is a 1.1 million acre area of southern New Jersey that is sparsely populated and home to cranberry bogs, carnivorous plants, and orchids.  There are four state forests within the Pinelands.  Our three days will take us to Batsto, a revolutionary and civil war era munitions village, Brooksbrae a graffiti covered abandoned glass factory deep within the Pine Barrens, various rivers, cranberry bogs, and finally an opportunity to taste a variety of Jersey wines that compete with the best America has to offer.  Bring your hiking boots, for there will be trails to travel on.  We will spend time developing landscape capturing skills in both color and black and white.  The use of filters, long exposure, and composition.  The workshop is open to all skill levels, and both digital and analog photographers are welcome.  Recommended gear along with your camera, a tripod, wide angle lens, mid range zoom lenses, (24-70 and 70-300), and filters.  There are three spots open for this workshop.  Cost per person is $1100.  Details on where to stay will be made available.  Transportation will be provided.

But, best of all on March 25th is Greek Independence Day, the parade is like none other you’ve ever experienced.  Evzones marching, military hardware, and a colorful audience to capture.  It will be a highlight of your street experience.  The days and nights will be split into various assignments, with time to regroup, and discuss the days outings along with reviewing images taken.  This workshop will critique each photographers work, with the idea of creating a portfolio, supporting a project idea, and to learn how to create stories from the field.  The workshop seeks to spark your creativity through street photography in one of the most enduring cities in the world - Athens.  Airfare, hotel, and meals are at the participants expense.  There will be a welcoming dinner and an outing to one of the best bars in the world.  Since this is street photography, the requirement for gear will be one camera and a single lens.  Prime lens is preferable over a zoom.  Bring an iPad or laptop to review and save your images.  Tripods are not necessary.  Itineraries will be emailed 30 days prior to departure with a recommendation of places to stay.  Cost per person is $1400.

Santorini April 13-17, 2023

Spend the most holy days of the Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations on the island of Santorini.  Holy Thursday, Holy Friday and the Resurrection service of Holy Saturday can be awe inspiring photographic events.  Particularly Friday night service in the village of Pyrgos.  The highest village on the island, Pyrgos, turns off all of their lights and installs thousands of fire pots through out the village.  As the fire pots are lit, the whole village brightens in a most spectacular way.  Crowds line the village streets awaiting the lighting of the pots and the processional walk of the clergy through the village.  Holy Saturday also is an inspirational opportunity as well.  The late night service culminates in a fireworks display seen across the island.  Every church on the island lights fireworks to celebrate the resurrection of Christ at midnight.  From our  vantage point in Oia we will be able to see fireworks from around the island.  During the day we will have opportunities to visit Thira, Oia, black beaches, and if time allows for it, a boat trip to the Volcano that sits in the sea next to the island.  All levels of photographers are welcome.  Gear requirements, and hotel options  will be provided for in advance.  Part of the fee will cover van transportation on the island, and a. welcoming dinner.  All other costs are not included.  Cost per person is $2400.  There is space for 8 participants.
