8th Chania International Photo Festival   Chania, Greece  July 20th-24th, 2025

John Vlahakis' Winter Light image has been accepted into the 8th Chania International Photo Festival that will be held in the port city of Chania, Greece on July 20th-24th of 2025.  The festival will be held at the Center of the Mediterranean Architecture (CAM) in a building dating back from 1595. The building is known as the Grand Arsenali and was the biggest shipyard located in the Venetian port of Chania.

3rd Annual B&W Athens Photography Festival   Athens, Greece

John Vlahakis' analog image "Al" has been selected for inclusion in the 3rd B&W Athens Photography Festival to be held at the Serafino Exhibition Hall in Athens, Greece this coming February.  Dates of the Exhibition are February 22nd - 26th.

January 2025

Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece will be presenting John Vlahakis' Enduring City work of images from February 7th through February 13th.  An opening night reception is scheduled for 8:00 pm on the 7th of February.  Blank Wall Gallery is located at 55 Fokionos Negri Street in Athens.  John will be attending the opening night reception, and signed copies of his book Enduring City will be available for purchase.  

December 2024

The 2025 John Vlahakis Workshop schedule has now been posted at https://www.johnvlahakis.com/workshops . Workshops in 2025 have been planned for Greece, Iceland, and New Jersey.  The Greek workshops will focus on three separate destinations.  Sparta, Mystra, and the Mani regions are scheduled for February.  The second Greek destination is the island of Crete, followed by a city street workshop in Athens.  Following the Greek workshops, will be one on the Jersey Shore in New Jersey, with the year finishing in Iceland.  For additional information contact info@johnvlahakis.com .

November 2024

The Avli Group recently licensed nine images from John Vlahakis' book, Enduring City.  The nine pictures are used in their new restaurant, Pitaki, in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood.  Pitaki is also selling the book Enduring City in their retail shop.  For licensing information, please contact info@johnvlahakis.com.

Ten of John Vlahakis' images have been included in a group exhibition in London, UK.  The exhibition will occur at Batsford in Hoxton from January 3rd through the 30th.  This is the first time his work is being shown in the UK.

October 2024

Pleased to announce that I have been accepted as a member of the Pleiades Gallery in New York City.  Founded in 1974, by artists seeking an alternative to the constraints dictated by the commercial gallery world, the Pleiades Gallery is located in the Landmark Arts Building, 547 W27th St. Suite 304, NY, NY 10001. Two of my images will be presented in a member's exhibition from November 26th through December 19th, 2024.  The title of the group exhibition is "Color My World."

J A P A N published in USA

John Vlahakis' second photography book J A P A N  was just published in the USA.  J A P A N focuses Vlahakis' eye to Japanese street culture and environmental landscapes.  The book was inspired from a recent photography trip to Japan this past year.  The book is 180 pages with 175 images in black and white and color.  The book is immediately available through this web site, and will be listed on alibris.com and amazon.com.  US ISBN: 979-8-218-47365-5 Library of Congress Control Number: 2024914790

Red Santorini was selected to be part of a group exhibition at the Black Wall Gallery on June 14th-25th, 2024.  Red Photography Exhibition selected images that maintained a red theme throughout.  Very honored to have had my image selected for inclusion.

Enduring City Published In Greece

Enduring City Διαρκής Πόλη (2024) is a personal journey through the streets of Athens by photographer John Vlahakis.  A four year personal project that reveals the modern and ancient day to day existence of today’s Athenians.  The collective cohesion of his black and white street photography lend themselves to capturing an Athens that highlights the city’s gifts to the past, and to its modern vibrancy as one of the great cities of the world.  Past and present meet to create a visual social documentary.

John Vlahakis’ image Fire and Ice has been selected for inclusion in the 6th Chania International Photo Festival from August 3rd until August 9th, 2023.  The exhibition will be hosted at the Center of the Mediterranean Architecture (CAM) in a building dating back from 1595 and at the Hamam on Katre Street, at the Old Harbor of Chania, Crete, Greece.

Newark Liberty International new $2.7B Terminal A opens with art work from 23 artists based in New Jersey.  

A little over a year ago the New Jersey State Council on the Arts put a call out to artists inviting them to submit art work representative of the state for display in Newark Liberty International Airport’s new Terminal A.  Painters, Photographers, Sculptors, and Mixed Media artists were invited to submit their works.  Artists that were accepted into this project had to sign an NDA.  The management of Newark Liberty International Airport selected 23 artists to represent the state within the new terminal.  Three photographers were selected to represent northern, central, and southern New Jersey.  I was fortunate to be selected to represent southern New Jersey.  Two of my images are now on display at the new Terminal A at the airport.  It is an incredible honor to have my work included in this exceptional public space.
